Note: Above coin has full name 'SaMuDra GuPtah' legends below the kings arm on the obverse. Usual coin only bears legends 'Samudra', hence rare variety.

King seated upright facing left on a high-backed throne, wearing a pearled cap and dhoti, playing the Veena that rests on his knees, circular Brahmi legend ‘Maharajadhiraja Shri...(Samudra) guptah’ partially seen around, the letter 'ptah' appears between the lute and the king's head, Rev. Goddess Lakshmi seated left on a wicker stool, holding a diadem in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left hand, Brahmi legend "SaMuDraGuPtah" on the right field, tamgha on left field, TOTGE Var. B.1, extremely fine, extremely rare. Note: The author reported about 10 specimens of Variety B; hence, these are much rarer than Variety A.

Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II (375-415 AD), Gold Dinar, 7.59 gms, Lion-Slayer Type, Obv. king standing, is seen mid-hunt, wearing dhoti and sash on his upper torso, holding a bow in his left hand with the right releasing the bowstring, the lion is facing the king and seen falling backward probably with an arrow in its mouth, the Brahmi legend around the field, Rev. goddess Lakshmi seated on a Lion to left, showering coins with her right hand and a lotus in her left hand, ‘Simhavikramah’ on the right field, TOTGE Class III-Var. A.4.2, very fine, very rare.

Gupta Empire, Kumaragupta I (415-455 AD), Gold Dinar, 8.07 gms, Horseman to Right type, Obv: king riding a horse to the right, wearing armlets, Brahmi legend ‘GupToKu(la vyomasasi jyatyajeyo) jitamahendrah’ around the field, Rev. goddess Lakshmi, neck, wrists bejewelled, seated facing left on a wicker stool, left hand of the goddess rests on her waist, holding a lotus with a long stalk, feeding grapes to a peacock on the left field, partial Brahmi legend "AJiTaMaHenDrah" on the right, dotted border around, TOTGE Class III- Variety A, extremely fine, very rare.

Post Gupta, Sasanka Dynasty, King of Gauda (600-630 CE), Base Gold Dinar, 8.88 gms, Abhishek Type, Obv. Nimbate Lord Shiva, seated facing on recumbent Bull facing towards left, with moon at upper left, Rev. Nimbate Goddess Lakshmi, seated cross-legged on a lotus, holding a lotus in left hand, two elephants are pouring water over her head, Brahmi legend "Sri ShaShaNka" in the right field, Bose Nasir #SGA-10.1, choice very fine, very rare.

Post Gupta, Samatata Region, (550-700 AD), Imitating Kushan Kanishka Ardoksho Type Gold Dinar, 7.39 gms, Obv. styled in the manner of Kanishka-Kushan faces left, sacrificing over altar at left, holding spear in left hand, unclear & crude Greek legend around, Rev. Ardoksho nimbate, standing to right holding sceptre, tamgha on right field, very fine, very rare.

Hunnic Tribes, Western Turks, Shahi Tegin(Sri Shahi)( 680-700 AD), Copper Drachm, 2.63 gms, Uncertain Mint in Khorasan, Obv. Draped bust of Tegin to right, wearing winged crown surmounted by double crescent, ‘σριο τογινο βαyo’ ('His Perfection, Tegin, King' in Bactrian), Rev. Fire altar flanked by two winged attendants with headdresses leaning toward the altar and placing their hands on it Brahmi legends ‘Srima Deva Pattasri’(Sri made by God’s perfection) visible on the fire altar shaft, Gobl Type 206, choice extremely fine, very rare. Tegin was the King of Turk Shahis, a dynasty of Western Turk or mixed Western Turk-Hephthalite origin who ruled from Kabul and Kapisa to Gandhara in the 7th to 9th centuries. The reverses of the drachms of Tegin of Khorasan are perhaps the most elaborate and detailed in all of the Hunnic Western Turkish series. While the winged attendants flanking the fire altar are sometimes described as Kinnaras, mythical half-man and half-bird creatures. Note: Only 3-4 specimen sold globally with Boar countermark, being offered for the first time in any Indian Auction.
