Gupta Empire, Samudragupta (335-370 AD), Gold Dinar, 7.80 gms, Lyrist type, Variety B, As per TOTGE only 10 specimen of Variety B are recorded making this variety rarer than the usual lyrist type, Obv. King seated upright facing left on a high-backed throne, wearing a pearled cap and dhoti, playing the Veena that rests on his knees, circular Brahmi legend ‘Maharajadhiraja Shri...(Samudra) guptah’ partially seen around, the letter 'ptah' appears between the lute and the king's head, Rev. Goddess Lakshmi seated left on a wicker stool, holding a diadem in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left hand, Brahmi legend "SaMuDraGuPtah" on the right field, tamgha on left field, TOTGE Var. B.1, extremely fine, extremely rare. Note: The author reported about 10 specimens of Variety B; hence, these are much rarer than Variety A.
