Rajadhara Manikya II ruled the Kingdom of Tripura from 1785 until his death in 1806. He formally ascended the throne after a transitional period of regency managed by his mother, Queen Jahnavi Rani Mahadevayu, which had commenced on July 11, 1785. His reign occurred during a pivotal era when the sovereign Kingdom of Tripura had already transitioned into a princely state under British influence, having entered a subsidiary alliance in 1761. Consequently, the scope of his executive authority was that of a ruler within a princely state operating under the overarching British paramountcy, rather than that of a fully independent monarch. It is important for historical accuracy to distinguish this ruler from his namesake predecessor: Rajdhara Manikya I, who reigned significantly earlier, from approximately 1586 to 1600 CE, and notably issued coins with his queen, Satyavati Mahadevi. The two monarchs presided over the state of Tripura in distinctly different historical contexts.
