Note : Although Delhi was the capital, Badaun (Budaun) was one of the most important administrative, military, and cultural centres of North India under Iltutmish. Before becoming Sultan, Iltutmish was appointed Iqta-governor of Badaun by Qutbuddin Aibak.

When Iltutmish became Sultan in 1211 CE, Delhi was politically unstable, The death of Qutbuddin Aibak had created a leadership vacuum. Aram Shah lacked legitimacy and support. Regional governors were becoming semi-independent. After defeating Aram Shah, Iltutmish, Secured the Delhi fort in Mehrauli area. Brought the influential Turkish nobles under his control. Reorganized the army stationed in Delhi to ensure loyalty. Iltutmish made Delhi the true political, administrative, and cultural capital of the Sultanate. Delhi mint is crucial in Indian coinage, Iltutmish helped standardize medieval Indian monetary systems. He Introduced the Copper Jitals. Silver Tankas and 1/2 Tankas. This remarkable ½ Tanka of Sultan Iltutmish struck at the Delhi mint is appearing for the first time in any Indian auction. Extremely fine grade, extremely rare.
