Sri Raghav Paratap Pavan Putra Bal Payake, within dotted border, Rev. yeh sike par chaap maharaj jai singh ki 17 jainagar" meaning the stamp of Jai Singh on this coin, 17 Jainagar, within dotted border, centrally strucked, superb quality extremely fine, exceedingly rare. Note: The gold coins of Bajranggarh are exceedingly rare, known to cataloguers by only four recorded examples. These include an octagonal piece sold at a 2007 international auction, a round piece in the National Numismatic Collection of the USA, an ex-mount coin offered at an Indian auction & another similar specimen with RY 18 sold in Oswal auction for 25Lakh Rupees earlier this year. Struck for ceremonial purposes rather than widespread circulation, their scarcity is attributed to this limited production. During the reign of Jai Singh, Bajranggarh was elevated to his primary residence after his ancestral home, Raghogarh, was threatened by the Sindhia. A ruler of distinct vision, Jai Singh issued coins of remarkable design. These bore inscriptions exclusively in Nagari script and professed allegiance to no one except the Lord Hanuman. The issuance of these unique coins ceased in 1816, when the Sindhia's general, Jean-Baptiste Filose, sacked Bajranggarh, forcing Jai Singh to spend his final years as a fugitive.
